Just a thought.

Did you buy the new one at the dealer? If not, trash it and get a dealer cable - anything else is junk and breaks in a few weeks.

My shifter cable was frayed pretty bad when I first bought the car in 2008. Wouldn't go into park. Replaced it with a cable from advanced autoparts. Fits perfect. Haven't driven it much since then, but it's still fine regardless.Originally Posted by camaronewbie

I might just have bad luck - but I've read a few posts over the years from some others as well that had issues with 'replacement' cables. The ones I had issues with were all made in India IIRC - I went through 3 of them from 3 different parts stores in less than 30 days, finally broke down and handed the dealer the big bucks, and no issues since. It wasn't fitment that was my issue - they just all broke on me.
BTW - there's not much in this world that's harder to do than hold one foot on the brake while you reach under the car and shift the lever by hand so you can get home!

I called the dealership this morning to check the price and availability of the cable and it has been discontinued. Hawk's Third Gen site also has it discontinued.
I guess now I either buy the cheapo or come up with another shifter or something.

Yikes - that sucks! Did you try www.gmpartsdirect.com?

Nevermind, I just checked - nothing at gmpartsdirect.
BUT - I did a little research ...
The el cheapo junk cables I had tried that failed were made by Pioneer.
But I looked at Dorman - they make one - it's GOT to be better than the Pioneer crapola. The Dorman part number is 04260 - you can order from just about any auto parts store (Autozone and Advance both can order Dorman parts, as well as Oreilly's I think).
