T5 swap question
Ok so I did the T5 swap in my car, finished up everything, drives nice big improvement over the auto, actually makes this car fun to drive.
Here's my question(I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for) The cars a 91 RS, came from the factory with the 305 TBI and automatic, I put in a T5 from a 90 camaro. Cars stock other than an exhaust. Do I have to do anything to the computer? should I put in a computer from a manual? I mean it drives fine the only thing I noticed is it idles really high when its first started, but then goes back to normal after about 5 minutes
P.S. I dont care about check lights coming on or anything, the car only gets a safety inspection where I live.
Thanks again

Re: T5 swap question
If I may paraphrase Duke Ellington:
"If it RUNS good, it IS good".
I'd suggest leaving it alone. At most, locate the PROM out of a T-5 car.

Re: T5 swap question
The P-N safety sw is the same, electrically, as the clutch safety sw.
Auto = won't start unless in P or N
Manual = won't start unless clutch is to the floor
Just plug that plug into that other switch. I would have expected that to have been done as part of the conversion.

Re: T5 swap question
There's a park/neutral switch which signals the ECM in an automatic car when in "Drive" for different idle at roadspeeds and other functions. (An auto car with original PROM, park-neutral switch in Park and a stick trans. swapped in will tend to stall while you're driving at speed.)
There's also a clutch safety switch; usually on the left side of the pedals on later third gens, with purple and (?yellow?) wires. That's a separately functioning and wired item.

Luckily I haven't had any of these problems, What exactly is the PROM? its a different part than the computer correct? Can I get one at like Advanced Auto?
Pardon my ignorance this is my first experience doing stuff like this and so far Ive been able to do it all on my own, The write i got off this website didn't really mention any of this stuff

Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM) is the chip assembly inside the ECM (computer.) A manual computer is the same as the automatic; only the PROM is different. Easy to change out; your ECM should have a cover retained by a couple screws.
You'd be fine with a TBI / 5spd PROM from a 90-92 F-body. Try the classifieds.

Re: T5 swap question
Find the plug for them that used to hook up to your auto shifter.
If you apply 12v to that and it lights up the reverse lights, you need to extend the wires & add a connect to connect that to the 2-pin switch threaded into the side of the trans.
Pretty straight forward.

Re: T5 swap question
R is not synchronized in the T5.
Put it in 4th before going into R.
The switch is activated off the linkage and shouldn't be the cause of a grind.

Re: T5 swap question
I know my question was if the grinding would cause the switch to not work, but i got the reverse lights working, turns out both the light bulbs were burnt out. Should have started simple
