Car: 88 iroc
Engine: 305
Transmission: 5 speed
Axle/Gears: dount know
help

just swaped out my 305 for a 400 wen i went to put the trans crossmeber back in the car it will not fit. the cross meber bolt holes will not line up its not long enough.its the same crossmeber i took out of the car and its the same trans?any one have any ideas?

Did you take the motor mounts that were bolted to the old 305 and put them on the 400, or did you re-use whatever mounts were already on the 400?

Actually, it's the same length it's always been, which is of course exactly the right length. It's the car that has changed. Happens all the time.

What has happened is, the car has spread in the middle, from its own weight, and/or the way you have it supported.

Best/easiest thing to do is to bolt up one side of the X-member, put a pry bar like a long punch through whichever of the holes in the other end is farther off and pry, and put a bolt in the other hole on that end.
