So last night i decided to take my car out only to my surprise i was unable to go to 2nd gear. (auto tranny 700r4)

I added a quart of fluid, and that didnt help, although it was a bit low.

Am i pretty much screwed? or can it be something simple?

Can it be the governor gear? how can i diagnose it?

took out governor gear and it was in perfect shape, thing looked brand new.

All help appreciated.

I have another 700r4 that i could use for parts, would swaping the valve body help at all? or is this not a valve body issue?

 

Check that the tv cable is adjusted right and that its not leaking fluid.

 

I'm not too sure on the internal workings of the 700R4 but it should be reasonably similar to TH350/400.

Will it shift into third? If so then there's a possibility of a failed intermediate sprag. You always pull the pan to see if there's any hard parts in it. Would be a good time to change the filter while the pan is off.

 

i have almost the same problem, it shifts fine sometimes but once and a while it wont shift into 2nd without me letting off the gas...i checked the fluid and its fine, but i dont know what to do. I really dont know crap about trannys so I am clueless.
