Speedometer cable replacement
Hi All
My 88 Iroc has a broken speedometer cable. It is broken just as it enters the transmission housing
Has anyone ever changed this part? If so, what problems did you have? Any advice would be great. Tks

Re: Speedometer cable replacement
If it has a two piece cable (threaded together in the middle of the two pieces of housing,) replace it with the same thing.
Make absolutely sure your speedo and speedo gears aren't jammed up. If the odo, trip odo or main flying magnet are gummed up, it will harm the speedo gears and / or cable. Pull the driven speedo housing and gear to inspect for wear. My bad speedo a few years back caused damage to the teeth on the driven gear.
Other than that, it's simple. Clip on the back of the speedo needs pushed towards the speedo to release the cable housing.

Thank you for your response. Will I get trans fluid once I gain access to the speedo gear area? Having trouble finding the long piece of the two piece cable.

Re: Speedometer cable replacement
Probably.
Take your old one with you so you get the right length.
I don't know about in your part of Ontario, but here in the states Pioneer is carried by Napa, Dorman is carried by darn near everyone but Napa and ATP is carried by a lot of places too. And of course Delco / GM dealer has speedo cables too. Keep looking; you'll get it!

Re: Speedometer cable replacement
An option would be to replace your two-piece with a one-piece. The last one I purchased was from my dealership, though I'm sure most auto parts store have or can order what you'd need.
