clutch opinions

My centerforce dual friction clutch is slowly dying. its slipping pretty bad under heavy acceleration So im thinking of just putting the same clutch in and a new flywheel as well. before i purchase anything i just wanted some opinions on the different brands/types of clutches and any recommendations on flywheels.

the car has a 305 tpi (for now) its an 86 block with the two-piece rear main seal. i have a t5 trans behind it. I am eventually putting a 350 out of an 88 formula in my car that will probably have about 400 hp. I know the t5 wont hold behind that so im not even going to bother, so i was thinking either a tko 600 or t56. is there a clutch setup that is interchangeable or am i just buying new parts over and over again?

Thanks!

Re: clutch opinions

If you go t56 you will need a new clutch setup again. The t56 uses a different style clutch than the t5 so there is no way of getting around that.

If you go TKO however you can reuse your t5 clutch and hydraulics as it uses the stock T5 bellhousing.

Im researching that now myself actually as i had to pull my trans for a input shaft leak. There are several aftermarket clutches out there that people seem to be running. Since your car is going to be putting down some good power eventually you might want to think about a good aftermarket clutch. Centerforce DF clutches are good (though ive heard otherwise as well). Then there are the Spec clutches which seem to have good reviews too (though again ive heard otherwise). Basically what one person likes in a clutch another may hate so its all personal preference. Also there are people out there that say a certain clutch didnt last more than a few hundred miles and they will never buy another one...but its that person who probably didnt read the break in instructions and take it easy on the clutch for 500 or so miles before beating the ever living crap out of it. If you break in a clutch properly and everything else is adjusted correctly (ie. throwout bearing is not putting pressure on the clutch fingers) then you should be just fine.
