700r4 speedo question

700r4 speedo question

figured i'd ask the question, since i am having a hard time finding the answer in the trans forum. got a 700r4 with the electronic speedo sensor, and want to convert it to good ol cable. gonna call the tranny shops tomorrow and don't want to sound like a heel. what will i need to do this conversion?

The speedo head itself is electronic and won't accept a cable. BTW, listing your year, make and model is always helpful. For example, Camaros 82-89 have cable-driven speedos while 90+ Camaros are electric. The two aren't interchangeable for the above-mentioned reasons, but also because the dashes/clusters are shaped differently.

sorry should've been more specific. the car has the cable type speedo cluster, just want to get rid of the electronic sensor and use the cable.

Remove the steel gear and install the plastic gear with the clip. Install the housing that holds the gear in the tail section. There are two different extension housing gear holders. One uses a 34 - 39 tooth gear count and the other a 40 - 45 tooth gear count. You will need to establish what gear count setup you need by having the tire diameter and or size, and the rear end gear ratio. Let me know what they are?, and I will tell you what gears are needed here.

tires are p2125/75r15 and rear gears are 3.42.
