Re: Transmission swap question

First it would have to exist, but probably not.

Re: Transmission swap question

1) I thought powerglides were only 2 speed
2) what year is the tranny? I seem to remember reading that older Olds stuff not a direct swap with a SBC unless an adapter plate is used.

Re: Transmission swap question

You could make it fit.
But that's far and away not what you should focus on, really.

Don't try to force anything. Find diagrams of transmission oil pans, that's the easiest way to identify what you have. More than likely you are trying to do what I did. My donor car was similar to yours, and this is not a bad thing. What you probably have is a TH-200 4R and if you are lucky a TH-700 R4. Either will give you over-drive and make highway driving better. If you are going for muscle both are OK but 700 is stronger and better for racing, but the 200 holds up well with some mods. If this is the case don't panic, acceptable modifications will pay off greatly. For example, in my case I retrofitted a TH-200 4R into my 1980 Camaro. You will need to change the transmission cross-member, run a vacuum line to the carb for shifting and a power wire for your kick-down. Kits are available at any speed shop and not expensive. As for the bolt pattern, I can only tell you about my TH-200 4R and mating to a 4 bolt main GM-350. The turbo hydra-matic transmissions have multiple mounting points for a number of engines and the 305 and 350 are the same. If you are going for a bit of power, I would suggest a shift kit, inexpensive and easy to install for a little extra go.
GOOD LUCK...
P.S. let me know if you need part numbers for the kits.
