super t-10

Anyone ever swap a t-5 to a super t-10? Is it easy?

Re: super t-10

You'll need an '82 parts car, because the T-10 was the manual transmission for the '82 V8 F-cars.
But not that T-10. Just everything related.
But why spend $1600 on a T-10, when you can spend $1700 on either a TKO500, or a TKO600?
Or did you happen to find an old T-10 from a '78 Z28 or similar?
If you broke a T5, there are places that can rebuild it to hold 500 HP, for like $1500, plus you still have a stock-looking direct fit, that still has an overdrive.

Re: super t-10

I found one locally on craigslist. Add says it's a barn find from a 77 Z that looks to be in good shape. Also says syncros look new. May have been rebuilt before storage $225.

Possibly a bent shift fork?
Find some ID codes on that T-10, possibly stamped, or on a tag. You can get enough for it to buy a good used WC T5. Sell it on the NastyZ forum.

Re: super t-10

There are times that it works and shifts fine. But sometimes I have to turn it off put it in reverse and then restart it. The problems are only recent. The 355 has been in it for over 4000 miles. Not sure if it's a WC or not I should check it. It does leak a drop now and then, no big puddles.I did put some lucas atf stop leak in it. Would that harm it? It said it was also good for manuals that use atf.

Re: super t-10

Sounds like a clutch problem to me. The trans pretty much can't cause that symptom.

The 355 has been in it for over 4000 miles.
Which did you use; a pilot bushing, or bearing?

Not sure. Bought the car last year with this way.

Re: super t-10

Could it be the pivot ball. That would be easiest to check first.

Is it hard to put in? Not at all, if you have the necessary pieces from an '82 F-body. But, you're not saving money when you also have to get a different bellhousing, driveshaft and shifter, then spend more on gas without overdrive. A new aftermarket bellhousing to bolt the T-10 in and use 3rd gen hydraulics is $450, new alum. driveshaft is $300(?) and the shifter could be tough to find: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...ing-plate.html
