No clue, but leave it off. The converter will run cooler, extending the life of the trans. Or are you taking it off road? Otherwise, the worst that could happen is skinning the back of a pet belonging to your local crazy cat lady.
I haven't run one of those in 20 years, and it's never been an issue.

I need to resurrect this for a similar question. I picked up a 86Z and I thing the cover is missing. IMO it is not the best since it does get driven in the rain. Where can I locate this thing and its screws?
