Best gears for light to light action or 1/4 mile time
Hello im in need for some help i have a 92 camaro rs with a 383 stroker motor and and turbo 350 tranny. The car is pushing around 440 hp for reference. I wanna know which gear ratio would be best for light to light action or fastest 1/4 mile time more street fun tho. I was thinking 373s but not to sure.
Thanks

Re: Best gears for light to light action or 1/4 mile time
Too many variables.
When I originally had my 383, my car still had 3.27 gears in it and I was able to run 12.0. The ratio was all off but it was all I had at the time.
The best gears will have you cross the finish line in 1:1 gear at or just before your shift point. Since that's going to depend on tire size and engine rpm, what the "best" gear would be is just a guess.
Generally for street/strip action with a 26" tall factory size tire 3.73 gears will work fine. Since you have a TH350, 4.10 gears with a 26" tall tire will have the engine reving a little high for highway driving without an OD. It won't hurt anything but fuel mileage will suck. Using 28" tall tires with 4.10 gears would be better.
Stuff the tallest tires possible under the fenders then adjust the gear ratio to best suit the tire height.
