700r4 bump
700r4 bump
Ive got a small problem,
My 1991 305 tpi camaro with a 700r4 is making a pretty hard bump noise when i give it throttle at times. i just got done putting hedders and a y pipe on from heddman and it started to do this after. the car has 70xxx miles on it. any thoughts to what it could be? is it fixable without a total rebuild?
Help please

Re: 700r4 bump
See if they are contacting something, check the motor mounts for deterioration & loose bolts, check trans mount & cross member, torque arm mounts.
( edit )
Check for loose // broken exhaust hangers, check u-joints

Re: 700r4 bump
did you jack the engine wheninstalling the headers? If you didn't install them yourself, the installer probably did.
If they didn't loosen the tranny mount then chances are it is ripped. You can't see if it's no good. You need to get under the car, place a block of wood on the tranny pan and undo the nut and jack up the trany to inspect.
Since you are that far, and tranny mounts are cheap, just replace it.
I assume it's the shorty headers so they aren't whacking the floor board and the y pipe only comes close by the passenger floor

Re: 700r4 bump
I agree. It sounds like a transmission mount to me also. Check it like described. Some people visually check and the mounts look good then they fall out in 2 pieces on replacement. Autozone and other parts stores carry rubber replacement ones. They make poly ones but those can cause vibrations at high speeds.
