Build T5/T56 to handel 450+HP and TQ??

Hey everyone,

I have a 383 Stroker being built with anticipation of pushing 450-525 HP at the Crank.

Can a Factory T5 Tranny out of a 1992 Camaro RS be built to handle such power? If so, who should I have it built by?

Same question for the T56 Tranny.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Build T5/T56 to handel 450+HP and TQ??

From what I understand the T5 fully built will still have a weak case and cost as much or more than a T56 of similar strength. I also seem to remember the 93 T56 is weaker than the 94+. I know some T56 are designed form 550Ftlbs factory (think viper) so I would probably go that route. So I guess to answer your question yes on a T56 no on a T5 but I am sure someone can correct me.

The stock '94-'97 T-56s are good for 450 ft lbs at the wheel and they seem to last at that power. The T-56 can be easily and inexpensively built for 600 ft lb at the wheel with common upgrades.

Another option is the T-56 magnum which is good for 700 ft lbs out of the box. I have not seen anyone swap one into a thirdgen yet.
