What's the REAL scoop on the 700R4 splines?
I've been trying to figure out the year the splines changed from 27 to 30, and I've seen everything from '84 to mid '84, to '86, '87, and even '90.
My guess is somewhere in or around '85, but what do I know?
So.......seeing as I'm no expert in these areas, I appeal to you, the all knowing forum members...........
When was the change, and how do you tell the differences (besides the obvious number of splines)?

It was the middle of '84, late '87 they changed the name when they added the Aux, valvebody. It then became 4L60 (most still refer to it as 700R4).
