Automatic shift linkage
Automatic shift linkage
Hey all, I'm new here, and I don't have a third gen of my own, but I am pretty close to buying an 89 firebird with a rebuilt 350 in it, and just had a question. The seller said that a shift linkage still needed to be put back in. It shifts and the transmission works fine, but it is unable to go into park. He said that it was a cheap and easy fix. I hope I explained enough for you to understand, but if what I said made sense, is it an easy fix? It's for a 700r-4 transmission, also.
Thanks in advance,
Peter

Re: Automatic shift linkage
Sounds like it just needs a shifter cable - easy job, takes about 30 minutes.
Try to get a Dorman brand - the junk they sell at most auto stores off the shelf break in about 30 days. You'll probably need to special order the Dorman brand. Gm stopped making them, doubt the dealer has one, but I'd try a dealer part first, and if none available, then try the Dorman.
