Re: Torque Converter Recommendation

If a street car, most look at 2400 - 3000 stall. Anything higher is generally track use.

If looking to save some cash - do a for the S-10 converter info on here. No one mentions it much anymore these days, but 5+ years ago everyone talked about using the converter from a S-10 V6 pickup - it stalls at about 2200 rpms, and is alot cheaper to buy (or used to be) than a brand-name off-the-shelf converter.

I installed a S-10 converter in my car, and it seems to work really well, stalls right at about 2200 rpms behind my 350. Think I paid $125 shipped (but that was 5 years ago - check current prices).

Re: Torque Converter Recommendation

2500 lockup converter would probably be your best bet

For street use, a converter that stalls around 2700 rpm. For full race, 3200 rpm. Too much stall speed is just as bad as not enough. With any converter with a higher than stock stall speed, install an aftermarket transmission cooler.

Re: Torque Converter Recommendation

Thanks for the replies, looks like a converter in the 2400-2800 range. How are Summit Converters? Looking for something in the 250.00 range.

Re: Torque Converter Recommendation

dont go by word of mouth on this one, like alky(that man is pretty smart said to much stall can be just as bad as not enough. you really should be making your choice based on your cam for the best match up. id contact the cam maker. i used the 268 voodoo cam and i let them decide my best stall and its a great match up i'm extremely happy with it. as far as brand... well thats gonna come down to opinion and well..... ya know lol $250 to spend on it though shouldnt be a problem i think i spent $190 on mine from ebay, it was a tci if i remember right.

just my 2 cents
