question on an 86 t5
I just finished putting a t5 in my 81 camaro it goes into every gear except reverse and 5th. Is there an electronic lockout on those two gears or does this sound like something else?
Its believed to come out of an 86 anyways. It is a 14 spline input shaft and is the t5 wc series.

Re: question on an 86 t5
No.
IIRC, the V6 T-5 was equipped with a 10-spline input shaft, the V8's has a 27-spline. The WC didn't arrive until 88. For more info, check the sticky at the top of the page.

Re: question on an 86 t5
On the driver's side of the transmission, up high and toward the rear of the case (in front of the division between that piece and the extension housing), there is a bolt like thing that is often mistaken for a fill plug. Removing it knocks off a little clip that holds the 5th/R shift lever in place, thus disabling those 2 gears.
Someone tried to fill that trans that way.
See my signature for help in understanding the obscure.
Only way to put it back together, is to pull it, remove the extension housing and cover, fish the piece out of the bottom of the case, and reassemble it.
Not worth bothering with that in that 6-cyl trans you have. Better to locate a V8 one, preferably from 88-up, which would be the 2nd design aka "Wo.... w ....... {ppppppuuuuuuuuuuukkkkkkke}" sorry, just can't bring myself to utter that ridiculous platitude.
