auto to t5 swap

I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I have an 83 z28 and am planning on swapping out the th200 auto for a t5 standard. Ive heard that there is an offset bellhousing that i need to get versus the usual bellhousing. I was wondering if thats true and why is the offset necessary? Also will my tranny crossmember still work or will i have to get a different one? Shifter? Driveshaft? Thanks for your time.

Re: auto to t5 swap

Yes it is true because the transmission is rotated slightly CCW in an F-body car. Your crossmember and driveshaft should be the same (they were for my 88 GTA, but it had a 700R4).

You will also need the proper shifter for the T5. There are several threads on this board that detail the swap. You should definitely read as much as you can before you start.

Do you want to go w/ a mechanical linkage or hydraulic? The bell housing offset is 17 degrees (I think). I have a hydraulic bell housing from an '88/'89 V8 T5 if you need one.

Re: auto to t5 swap

I'm going with the hydraulic set up, i have access to the bellhousing if i need it but if that falls through i will have to find one.
