Need a little help
First off, I know barely anything about rear end gears, so what's the difference between bolt ring and pinion set and excel ring and pinion set? And will 3.73's be good with a 305? Or not any better than 3.42's?

Re: Need a little help
I have asked part of this question. 3.42s are good for a 5.0. Most people who did 3.73s said that they would rather have done 3.42s. As far as the other stuff goes I'm still furing all this out my self haha.

But is having too high of gears a bad thing? Because if not then I don't really see the difference but like I said, I have barely any knowledge of this

Re: Need a little help
Higher Gears generally means less MPG for one thing. But some state that not having to lay on the peddel to get up to speed evens it out.

Re: Need a little help
That's true, I think I need to know more about the difference between bolt ring and excel ring first, then pick the ratio depending on the plans for my car

Yup. Just look at Tech articles, go way down past engine and carbs/efi. And click GEARS.
