I have a chance to buy a 95 GMC 1/2 ton with a 350 and auto. I would like to replace the tired 305 and 700 in my firebird with this. the engine is easy, but the trans i'm not shure of. It is a 4L60E and I have no idea how to make the electronic trans work without a computer. can enyone help??

 

You can't make it work without a computer of some sort. Either the original PCM, or aftermarket.

 

I suppose I could take the computer and harness from the truck. I thought I had once seen an add for an aftermarket unit for that but cant remember who was selling it.

 

Taking the stock computer is all-or-nothing. You'd have to bring over the complete computer, all the sensors, induction system, injectors, etc.

TCI makes the cheapest controller, it's about $600. Hughes has one for $1500.

 

is it posible to make the thing full manual shifting? $600 is going to be tough to get by the wife after spending $1000 on a used truck just to get the engine + trans. cash is tight these days. She can't see why I need a new engine + trans when she is out driving our 2010 camaro.

 

You can do manual shifting... with a computer.

Just sell or trade the 4L60E and get a 4L60.

 

thats what will have to happen. Use the money from parting out the truck to rebuild the 700r. thanks
