t56 question

I know this has been covered a million times and I have read so many links but I still need to know which t56 to buy. I have read that the retrofit bolts right up but I am installing a ls3 so I am guessing that's not the one I want. I am planning on buying new so if you could explain to a not very mechanical person it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: t56 question

If you want one to work with a SBC/T5 setup now, and a LSx later, then get a LS1 Fbody (98-02) or GTO T56 and use the adapter plate. http://www.thegearbox.org/catalog/it...17/4803441.htm

If you're going LSx right now, just forget the adapter plate.

You'll have to work out the driveshaft/torque-arm/Xmem/speedo with the adapter.

Re: t56 question

No I am doing it all at once. lsx engine and t56 transmission at the same time. This car is only used for play so doesn't matter how long it takes to finish so figured If I did it all at once it would actually save work and money. Wasn't expecting that answer on transmission choice. Thanks

Re: t56 question

So you just need one for a LS1 Fbody (98-02) or GTO T56. Don't get one that's listed for an LT1 or from the ('93-'97) Fbodies.

There's nothing wrong with buying new, but you're getting a stock transmission at a new price. Very little wear happens in a T56 besides the items that get replaced during a rebuild, so you lose nothing buying a well-built rebuild.

FWIW, I have a LS1-style T56 in the classifieds now.

I have one of these going behind my LS3/L92 going into a '92 vette.
