700r4 or th400???
Ok sunday night i wreaked my trans lost 3rd and 4th gear its a 700r4 its $1500 to rebuild with shift kit or i was looking at getting a used th400 that was perfectly fine before it got pulled i was gonna take that in get it checked out and have a shift kit installed which the th400 would be the cheaper way oh and btw im a senior in High school so limited funds with a motor swap thats sapouse to happed this spring just wondering what route i should take for my next trans?
Re: 700r4 or th400???
the th400 is over kill for a street car really. It is defitnly a power house handling kind of tranny. It is also only a 3 speed transmission so you lose mpg pretty bad
Remember when you swap to a th400 the tailshaft is either longer or shorter depending which one you get which mean new driveshaft whoch runs 400 bucks give or take and you need the new crossmember which is another decent penny
the 700 r4 is a better choice if you put a shift kit and corvette servo in it. It can handle plenty of street power and have the od for the mpg. th350 would also require same thing as th400.

Iroc Z Guy, I have a 700r4 that just got rebuilt in October last year that I took out of my car for the T5 swap in March of this year. I have all the paperwork and I'll be going to Fond du lac in about 4 weeks if you can wait for it. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: 700r4 or th400???
I had it rebuilt by a Transmission shop called AAMCO here in Jacksonville and I did drive it from October to March but my speedo has never been quite accurate so I'm not sure how many miles I put on it. Nothing crazy though, the motor never ran well enough to beat on it really hard. That's why I swapped it all out.
