Axle off. Replace/inspect what?

Hi guys just wanted to swallow my pride and ask this question. Question first: My rear axles comming off my 87 trans am auto. What would you look for, inspect, lube, or replace while its out?

I'm installing an aluminum diveshaft, new rear shocks/struts, and control arms. Gonna hold off on my 3.73 gear intall for now. I'm going to inspect the ebrake cable, but its working fine. Anything else you'd do if it were you? I have to ask because I'm that guy who just had my subframe down and engine on a lift, but didn't do the engine mounts (which are fine but should have been done) and the transmission mount (which isn't fine and started thumping soon as I had it all together).

Your thoughts might save me time and headache. Thanks guys!

Wheel bearings and seals if you need it.

Axle does not need to be removed to do anything you listed.

I agree with rob that a check of the axle seals are in order.

You might check for a weeping pinion seal as well.

Re: Axle off. Replace/inspect what?

if your sandblasting the rearend take it completly apart b4 you do.
take it to a carwash and wash it completely
replace all bearings and seals.
check axle bearing surface for pits and flaking
replace axles or use bearing axle savers if bad
POR15 works best on rust, prim n paint the rear if you r blasting it.
por15 dosent stick to painted surfaces over time very well.
use undercoating or truck bed liner on underside of car and lizard skin or something like it on inside...
