granny gear...

well. i currently had so many different issues with my firebird and not being able to decide what engine i want. i finally got my hands on a 350 and a granny gear 4 speed. my car is originally a 5 speed and this 4 speed seems to be able to handle a good deal of power since this one was from a 350 in a truck, to my understanding these transmissions came in the big block firebirds and camaros of the second gen.

now what i wanna know is what will i need to make this work? is the transmission just a bolt in like the t5? will i need any aftermarket cross members or torque arm connector? i want THIS transmission to work. so please i dont want anyone to say just get a t56 or just a 700r4 or just get a th350/400.

Re: granny gear...

LOL no.

There are a handful of transmissions that will bolt up to the torque arm, and there are a handful of adapter kits to make other transmissions bolt up to the torque arm. That transmission isn't one of the above.

Re: granny gear...

Of the choices available, there's really only one manual transmission and one automatic transmission that make solid logical choices in our cars. It's either T56, or 700R4. Everything else is either obscure/hard to find, requires lots of mods to work, or is just too weak to do any good. The closest alternative after the T56 would be a T5, but they're hard to come by and weak.

The old 4spd would be a major pain to install. Better to sell it on Craigslist to someone restoring a truck and use that $$$ to pick up something that will work better.

EXACTLY: that's what you should ALWAYS do with parts you come across that aren't right FOR YOU. They might be right for SOMEBODY, and that somebody will pay CASH. Turn what you can't use into at least a down payment on something you CAN.
