auto to manual. yes or no?

hello everyone, I recently purchased a 1989 rs to build up. It was a 2.8 v6 automatic but the engine died. I have mounted a rebuilt small block chevy 350 and removed the ecm. i was curious how difficult it would be to convert the car to a 4 or 5 speed and would the transmission be able to withstand the engines torque? or would i be better off putting a th350 in the car? thanks for any help!

better off with the th350

the t5s that came in these cars really arent built for "power"
