GM Factory Stall Speeds

Hello, I was wondering what stall speeds GM used in various vehicles that were equipped with the 700R4 transmission. I thought I remembered hearing somewhere that a 4WD S10 had a higher stall speed than our Camaros and Firebirds. Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Thanks everyone! ! !

Re: GM Factory Stall Speeds

I doubt if there's any specific stall speeds listed anywhere. Stock converters stall somewhere in the 1500-1800 range.

Rated stall speed is only a guess. Stall speed depends on how much torque is put into it. A converter rated at 2400 stall may stall anywhere from 2200-2600. A converter designed for a V6 will stall higher when put behind a V8. A converter designed for a light vehicle will react a lot differently when used in a heavy vehicle.

If you want to try junkyard swapping converters, you're taking wild guesses at what may work or not and gambling that the converter isn't worn out or damaged. It's better to just buy a converter with a stall speed that matches the cam grind.
