LT1 pressure plate bolts....being made again

Many of you know these were discontinued by GM awhile back and are impossible to find. Been told repeatedly they are one time use bolts.

So......Mc Cleod finally got on the ball and had some made look similar to an ARP. About $50 for the set,put some in yesterday. Toeque these to 35 lbs

Thought you guys might wanna know if you didnt already.

PN 1502 believe Summit sells them

Is McLeod providing the torque spec?

It is 22 or 25 ft-lbs, last I checked.

Yes its their spec, different from factory. Different type of metal I suppose kinda like ARP recommends some higher torque ratings on some things.

Think the factory bolts used something like youre talking about + XX degrees additional. Something like that.

Yeah, 15lbs-ft + 30 degrees or 22lbs-ft.

I think some year service manuals must have had one version and other years had the other.

Their website doesn't list correct ones; just the incorrect ones for T5 pressure plates. So a PN would be helpful.

Not doubting you as much as saying there have been a LOT of incorrectly sold bolts for the LT1 T56 application.

I found this site the other day...
http://www.powertorquesystems.com/Co...Plate_Tall.htm
GM part # is different but they list them for corvettes, not sure what would be different between the LT1 vettes & f-bodies?

Re: LT1 pressure plate bolts....being made again

McCleod has been making them for a while. And as far as I am concerned are the only correct replacement for factory bolts. The ones at autozone are not correct. These fasteners are very different than your generic flywheel bolts or anything you would get from a hardware store. The shank is oversized to fit in the bore of the pressure plate tightly and the shank extends into the flywheel.

By the way, the factory bolts can be re-used. They are not a torque to yield design.

Re: LT1 pressure plate bolts....being made again

ARP also makes pressure plate bolts for LT1 T56s now. I bought a set and they cost half as much the McCleod bolts. The part number is 134-2202. Torque is 35 ft/lbs with or without Loctite.

It's about time - I've long since bought the McCleod bolts but good to know there's a better priced alternative. I'd expect to see McCleod bolt prices come down now that they're no longer the only game in town.

Maybe. What bothers me is it looks like on the ARP bolt this is a soft transition from the shank to the threads. The OEM and McLeod bolts have a hard transition. See pictures above. The shank only extends into the flywheel about 0.085" so the shank really needs to remain full width right until the threads start in order to be effective. If you get a set, it would be very helpful if you would take measurements. At this point I would still be buying the McLeod bolts.

Re: LT1 pressure plate bolts....being made again

I've already installed them, so I can't take any measurements without taking everything apart again. Should I be concerned about using these ARP bolts?

Probably nothing to worry about. I am just speculating based on some photos of the bolts online. People have used lessor bolts with success, that is for sure.
