Re: t56 swap
93-97 T56's are compatible. You can change a 98+ to be a 94-97 T56 if you buy the appropriate parts.
93 T56 is very expensive to change up to a 98+ for an LS1 swap. Requires quite a bit more changes.
Expensive enough that if I ever go to swap a Gen3/4 engine into my car I'll likely be selling my T56 to buy a LS1 T56.

Re: t56 swap
With the 93-97 T56 the bell housing bolts up as well as the stock LT1 flywheel if you have a motor with the one piece rear main seal. Otherwise you need the centerforce 2pc rr seal flywheel for the LT1 clutch.

They work just fine. Get the Hawks double hump X-member and you can even reclaim ground clearance if you have a custom Y-pipe built.

Re: t56 swap
Glad I found this, I just bought a t56, and i hope to gather the parts and have it in sometime next month.
For the VSS for me, I JUST sent my tail housing out to alloy to get it machined for a mechanical speedo. I have just heard too many times that the converter box does not register the speed correctly.
I CANT wait to be banin gears in the Iroc!

Re: t56 swap
I think most people get confused when setting up the SGI boxes as there are many different configurations and the instructions are not that great. But once you get it set it works great.

Re: t56 swap
I was actually talking about that black box that converts the electrical vss output to a cable for the mechanical speedos.
