At normal throttle my 1984 Camaro shifts into 2nd at 10 mph, 3rd at 20 mph, and 4th at 30-35 mph. Its shifting early isn't it?

Also, it won't downshift out of 4th even when I try to kick it out.

Lastly, in OD it seems to stack 4th and OD. RIGHT after it shifts into 4th it shifts into OD, which is at about 30 mph.

Are these issues related to eachother? Like, they are all because my TV cable needs to be adjusted? OD isn't supposed to engage that close to 4th is it?

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with those shift points. And 4th is OD, so you're referring to the converter lockup. It's supposed to lockup immediately after going into OD. You're just new to having an automatic work the way it should. What was your last automatic, anyway? A Ford?

Really?? 4th just seemed really early, like the engine sounds really low like its straining.

I felt these were late because the owners manual reccomends later shift points for manual transmission operation. It reccomends 2nd at 15, 3rd at 25, and 4th at 40 mph. Is it usual for the reccomended shift point to be later for manual transmissions?
