Transmission: 700-R-4
Axle/Gears: 2.73 open
using a s-10 blazer diff

i have heard that mid 80s s-10 blazers have posi units in them that will fit in our GU2 housings.anyone know about this?

They're the same specs as third gens. They changed over to 28 spline axles in 1990 and somewhere around 1986 went from 7.5" to 7.625" ring gear.

You just can't use the axles. Wrong length.
