Quick Question Before Draining Trans Oil

I have a chevy 350 with a wc t-5 swapped in my 240z and have encountered a little problem. My speedometer is a bit to fast and I was told with my rear end swap I need a different speedometer cog "driven gear". Now before I go drain the oil to check if it is even possible to change it out with out dropping the transmission I decided to ask here. Basically I want to know if when I remove the sleeve held on by the little bracket, will the speedo cog come out with the sleeve or is it attached in the transmission. If I can get the cog out that way I would be a very happy camper.
If not I don't think I am going to have access to a lift anytime soon to drop it again and I just got the car running with my dad so taking the whole setup out again is not going to happen. So it is either this or a gps speedo and we all know which one is cheaper haha.

Unscrew the cable at the trans, remove the bolt and retainer, and yank the sleeve which will contain the driven gear.

Yes, if you can squirm under the car--I have to jack my IROC up to comfortably reach the parts in question.
