9 bolt posi opened up (with pictures)...DAMAGE...is it still good?
I have been hearing a slight whining from my rear end since the end of last season so today i had a chance to yank the cover off and take a peek. There was metal in the gear oil (bad!) and i saw that the posi cones were both bottomed out (source of metal). So i yanked the axles and pulled the center chunk out and dissassebled the posi again to see what i was up against. Now note ive reshimmed this posi about 3-4 years ago now. This is what i found:

Note the wear on the walls of the actual case. Im not so concerned about the cones since those are wear items but the case has some unusual wear. Is this thing toast and should i be hunting for a new case or can i just scuff it up...throw some new cones in it and be done with it for awhile again?

I'd run it, no prob. The scrapes in the wall are from trash, or chips off the cones most likely.

You say you shimmed them, but did you mill them down? Looks like nothing was taken off the end.
I do mine like this and then shim them

yea they were milled off 3-4 years ago but look like nothing was taken off again. When assembled it before there was clearance but it quickly got eaten away.

There was an Aussi supplier for 9-bolt stuff awhile back thru Flea-Bay: " street_and_strip_gears " is the username . He's got nothing listed right now but you could contact them thru that site to see if they still have anything.
