torque converters...
has anybody stepped up their torque converters in their stock engine/trans combinations? wondering if I increase the stall speed in mine if it's gonna kill my gas mileage. It's a stock L03 5.0L TBI with a 700R-4 and 2.73's. In the future I do plan on changing rear gears.

You can install a 2200-2400 converter into a basically stock engine to help improve performance. A converter needs to be matched to the camshaft grind. If the rest of the car isn't optimized to better performance such as those highway gears then such a swap won't show any big gains.

Re: torque converters...
The converter is a good mod. I've still got the 2.77 gears and I have a 2200rpm stall and bolt ons. Even though I still have the freeways gears I have had good gains with the higher stall. I haven't noticed a change in the fuel economy to any great extent. Get a converter that locks up like stock one does and there shouldn't be a change with fuel economy. It may go down depending on how you drive when you get the new converter put on. The car is a lot more fun to drive with the higher stall converter though. I would have a hard time going back to stock stall now. Are you going to get the trans rebuilt to?

Yea the trans is out now and getting rebuilt. The car is a daily driver. I'm gonna have the trans tuned up and later on do some engine upgrades.
