26 spline axle question! PLEASE HELP!
26 spline axle question! PLEASE HELP!
I read the sticky post on the topic, but I need to know if I'm understanding this correctly. Can I swap a 28 spline Torsen posi unit, out of a 99 Camaro rear, into my 1984 (originally 26 spline) 10 bolt rear? I know I will have to add 28 spline axles, but can I do this without a problem? Also.....If I do this, is there an outer wheel/axle seal that is larger (for the 28 spline axle) that will work in my old housing? Thank you all ahead of time!!! Nice site!

That is just plug and play, no seal changes needed.
They are the same size on the flange end.

On that note.....is there a 4.56 gear offered that will work on that stock 99 camaro carrier? I believe it was a 3.27 gear originally.........
I plan on 4.56 gears, 3 speed auto, and 28x9 slick

im sure someone makes a gear for it. im just wondering what kinda power your making with your engine. with the slicks you mentioned i wouldnt go over 400 hp with that rear end. get a 12 bolt or 9 in if your mill is 400+ hp. stock camaro rears are only 7.5'' and will only handle so much.
Like someone else said on this site. build up a 10 bolt and baby it or upgrade to a 9'' and pound on it without worry.

You can use the Richmond Gear ( and any other brand ) 4.56:1 7.5" 10-bolt gear set with the '99 Torsen in your '84 housing. The problem with this ratio is the grinding necessary to install the special cross-pin. And no, you can't have 4.56:1 gears in this proposal without also buying the special pin.
