700r4, 4L60, and 4L60E Transmission

I have a 91, 700r4. 4L60 that abruptly quit shifting to 3/4 . Drop the pan today. Not a whole lot of fiber in it. But quite obvious the fluid wasn't changed much if ever at all. It's got 100,000 miles even on it. I'm gonna just assume the 3/4 clutches are gone. And if not it won't be long anyway. BUT!! I also have a 99 camaro with the 4L60 E, that I'm converting over to my 327, Engine double humps with 400 horses and 400 trans . I had back when I was 19. Does anyone know any tricks to make the 4L60E substitute the 4L60. I'm not to sure this is gonna be possible but , If I could modify the E to the 4l60 that would buy me some time. Keep momma off of my back. Long as she riding I'm good. I'll instead just invest in tools and a kit . It's way past my time to build my first tranny. Thanks in advance.

re: 700r4, 4L60, and 4L60E Transmission

Won't be able to interchange these because of electronics. Course I still believe i could make something work. However bolt pattern and ratio is still different.
Up till three days ago I had always just took my trans to a friend. Well after purchasing another car a few wks ago With this 700r4 that I didn't know existed till about 4 months ago. And hotrodders .com. Our 99 has the 4L60e. I wasn't aware of that till yesterday. To many yrs out of what once was a passion to me. No more sending momma to the shop. Can't believe I've let go of my love for chevy camaro's all these yrs. I just might be able to fix this one myself. There was thin grey residue in the pan. No fiber pieces. It's gonna be a gamble as to how long this transmission last. Cause I don't believe it was properly serviced through the yrs. And the fluid was dark, a lil odor too. But With my auto experience. That I admit lacks goin in a transmission. I still haven't seen nothing indicating the 3-4 clutches being burnt. It seems to just not be shifting past 2nd. Today I am going to inspect and replace some minor components inside trans. pan. I noticed air bubbles on dip stick when I checked it runnin. I think that could be a bad valve or bad govenor. I grinded the filter open and its had better days. Gonna check solenoid also. I just feel like if there was burnt clutches I would have found fibers in the pan. Not residue only. Any ideas please advise. Thanks.

I suspect that putting in an E wouldn't be that much different than putting a carb on a LT1.....Gotta find a way to control the tranny when an ECM is no longer involved.

That being said, I did a Google Search using the terms "stand alone 4L60E controller" & got some results as to what might be need to accomplish that task. http://isearch.avg.com/search?cid={0df55891-6382-4faf-8c52-9b764aa18d32}&mid=c5888d9c080247d68b9059e75ba8b9f0-9a6ab323ddb6a21294c206d40d0f18830fd617fd&ds=AVG&v=10.2.0.3&lang=en&pr=pr&d=2012-01-26%2012%3A42%3A53&sap=ku&q=stand+alone+4L60E+controller

'92-'93 6.5 / 4L80E controller would be the cheapest thing you could adapt. Gotta re-pin a couple of wires, at a minimum.

Lol @ Blackbird. The stand alone kit wouldn't be much more than buying another 4l60 already built and install myself. Hahaha, I figured there was a way. But I didn't expect that price tag. I've been goin through the 4l60 tonight. The govenor plunger seems to be sticking. I'm gonna get another one tomorrow. I've.change the filter, and checked all the valve components. I'll change the gov. And flush the fluid later today. Then see if I get lucky or bite a bullet. Thanks for the replies.

re: 700r4, 4L60, and 4L60E Transmission

First, i do apologize for the misspell name. Blackened Bird, I didn't take the time to read the whole name. Excuse me. I am grateful for your the help. As I am always appreciative for others knowledge. The only reason I joined this forum was because it seems more factual than most. And I'm wanting to cap my skills on gas powered vehicles by finally learning transmissions. I wasn't laughing at YOU! I found it amusing that it would cost me more than a rebuild to use the mod kit. You would laugh too if you had any idea of the $$ I have waste making things work. Or inventing things that don't work. However, I do pull em off on occasions. I do enjoy taking modern electronic equipt at times when its in my favor. And proving that anything can return to mechanical. So don't let my humorous attitude offend or upset you.
