Possible to make a rear end posi?

I have a gov lock rear end in my car and I'm wondering if it's possible or even worth the cost to rebuild it so it's a true posi? I'm not sure if it's possible but if it is I would like to do that so I don't have to go out and buy a whole new rear end

You buy a posi carrier and bolt your ring gear to it and install it in place of the old carrier.

Here is an auburn carrier:

A Zexel Torsen carrier (probably the best factory posi around):

It will require you to press the bearings off your gov loc unit, and reinstall them on the new unit, but it's a doable job. It's right in the center of the rear differential, so pretty much everything attaches to it, so everything's gotta come off except the ring gear, and you'll want to verify your gear setup is still good after you swap, as it may need a little tweaking. But is it possible? Yes. Is it something worth doing? Yes, especially if you find a Zexel Torsen. They dont have any clutches so they last much longer.

Rebuilding a Gov-Lock takes special tools, plus kits are rare and costly. Better to suffer what you have than try a Lincoln locker in a Gov-Lock. That's a better recipe for a worse disaster than trying to Lincoln-locker an open diff.
