transmission wierdness

transmission wierdness

OK so i just floored it and the rpms were maxed out. It wouldnt shift into 2nd at all until i took my foot off of the gas and it shifted very hard into 2nd. any ideas whats going on?

i should also mention, my tach goes up to 70 and when i floor it, the needle goes up to 70 and you can still hear the engine increase in speed but no shift. it finally shifts around 75-80 rpms judging by the engine noise. if i max out the tach needle and take my foot off the gas, the needle will drop down to around 55-60, THEN shift. could it be as simple as a tv cable adjustment or fluid/ filter change?
