MK6 vs M39 1st gear ratios?

The MK6 T5 was bundled with the G92, N10, 3.45/3.42 gear cars and the M39 T5 with the non-G92, 3.08 geared cars. It's common knowledge that 5th gear on the MK6 T5 is steeper (.73 vs .63) than on the M39 T5. But I've seen conflicting info on the 1st gear ratio of the MK6.

I've seen it listed as both the common 2.95 ratio and also with a 2.75.

Does anyone know which it is?

I'd be happy to create you one if you want to pay for it but it won't involve a stock countershaft.

Oh, I don't want one. I just wanted to verify that they both came with a 2.95 1st gear and that the 2.75 stuff is all bogus.

Where are you seeing it listed with the 2.7x first gear? Besides 5speeds.com applet list.

Re: MK6 vs M39 1st gear ratios?

Well, it looks like 5speeds fixed their list; it had 2.74 first gear in the description line for some of the codes years ago.

I was honestly hoping it was still showing 2.74 first there (or somewhere like http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Bo...T5-ID-Tags.htm ) so you could have an opportunity to call a Tremec parts dealer and verify the countershaft service # as the same for a 1352-196 for example.

Post up any "popping up" events as you see fit.

Re: MK6 vs M39 1st gear ratios?

Noone has ever posted any tooth counts, anywhere, for the mythical 2.75:1 first that I also have seen in many places. And with only a 3.45:1 axle, why would there be? Need at least a 10:1 combined first to get the best from a manual with a 305.

Re: MK6 vs M39 1st gear ratios?

Thanks jmd, I think we can finally put this 2.75/2.74 1st gear stuff in the BS column.

Re: MK6 vs M39 1st gear ratios?

I say we have Kevin follow up on his decade old posts. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...094-post4.html

Joe needs to correct his site: http://members.cisdi.com/~anesthes/gear.html

https://www.thirdgen.org/calculations used to be
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...ulations.shtml

So yeah, a few updates could be made.
