By what people are telling the bw 9 bolt holds up real good, alot of talk about it on here and www.9bolt.com I know its holds up to 500 hp in the drags, only thing stock on the car.

Re: best rear end
The stock 10 bolt can take more abuse then most people realize however although they have survived mild use on the dragstrip, they have also failed in factory street cars just driving around on the street.
The 9 bolt, if you can find one cheap, isn't much of an improvement for the price. The rare Dana44 is much better but to even find one is difficult and if it's in good condition, the asking price will probably be close to buying an aftermarket 9" or even 12 bolt. The beefiest is the aftermarket Dana60.
Invest in a posi for what you currently now have and enjoy it. Save up to eventually buy an aftermarket bolt in 9" or 12 bolt. All the improvements you can do to the 10 bolt won't change that it still has a tiny ring and pinion and breaking the teeth off is probably the highest failure of these diffs.
Your T5 transmission won't be far behind the diff providing it doesn't fail first.

Re: best rear end
When I decided to upgrade my differential I stayed with the 10 bolt, and here it is.
Upgraded the axles to 28 spline to fit the new 28 spline Eaton Posi.,then I went from a 2.73 ratio to 3.42. ,and last the L.P.W. Ultimate support cover.

A 360HP car running slicks and launching hard can destroy the 10 bolt I built. The support cover should help it live if you don't run sticky tires and use a softer launch with that power. Or if you must launch hard you will need at least a 9" or a 12 bolt.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: best rear end
Any rear end will be fine; the T-5 will protect it from any serious stress.
Don't have a clue what all this "broadside" and "jump out" business is. Sounds like r*¡cer talk?

ha, r*¡cer talk, thats funny. I vote on a clutch type posi like alky said above. keep your stock gears cause you got the low first gear t5. Buy a gear installation kit(your gears will be out of sinc after swapping carriers). Enjoy.
Re: best rear end
Ok thanks this may sound dumb but could some1 give me a link to where i can buy a posi? Like from Summit or Jegs? And im not drag racing im 17 and its gonna be my everyday car, but the instance that some other punk kid decides his 4cyl is faster i wanna be able to show him who's boss, so i guess im basically asking what kinda posi i should get? Aswell as recomended rear end gearing? I dont need to be going over 135mph...ever

Re: best rear end
summit or jegs are both good choices. for ratios, if it's TPI i'd use low to mid 3's , if you've got a carb on there , maybe 3.73's? any posi they have that works with your rear axle will be fine for your use.
Re: best rear end
its a carbeurated 355 sbc (around 360hp) i dont wanna loose alot of top speed i have alot of flat unused roads so what would be the best gearing for that? like i said around 135mph, and yeah ik i sound like a punk kid and or ricky bobby but just want it to be perfect

Re: best rear end
well there's no perfect- only trade offs....i think anything from a 3.42 to a 3.73 would be good.

Re: best rear end
Ive got nothing but good things to say about the setup I run and don't see any reason why a Eaton Posi. would not work perfectly for you. There not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. = http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...Term=19599-010 also = http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsS...als/PCT_221429You will need to upgrade your axles to 28 spline as I did in order to have the stronger set up. Maintaining a 135 mph run for any distance is a little high for a performance gear ratio. You will have to sacrifice some of that top end if you want something fun off the line. I don't see how its possible to have both. Any way here's the photo of the components I suggest .Add 28 spline axles to this and you will be happy.

It seems I have been suggesting this setup over and over with a few threads lately. Ive got good reason. If your going to push the 10 bolt street/strip I beleave this is what is best.

Re: best rear end
You pick/buy the components separately and pay someone ( approximately $ 300.00) to put it all together for you in the rear of the car.
