Clutch explosion burns up pickup

was an incident locally the other day where the clutch
exploded on a 1991 chevy pickup as it was on the
highway, red hot fragments punching up through the
floor, lodging behind the dash and starting a fire that
gutted the cab of the truck-police found more clutch
fragments about 1/2 mile back.Kinda sounds like he
had a slipping clutch and as it started to fail, revved
the hell out of it to get just a little further until the
pressure plate blewGood reason to have a stout
scattershield if you rev the hell out of a badly slipping
clutch. Anyone have any nasty clutch blow-ups with
your third?

Re: Clutch explosion burns up pickup

Not on a 3rd but I had a 4th gen video linked to me a while back that showed this happening. In this case though it did not catch on fire. The driver was also lucky to have walked away from it unhurt.
