Broke your S60 guts?

Okay, not many of us are making this kind of power, but if you can break the parts in your S-60, I just learned there's a kit to use Dana 70 gears and carriers. Minor grinding is required, but the axles are stronger than the 60 R&P, but the 70 R&P is 33% stronger, making the axles the weaker link, until you invest in 40-spline axles and a new aftermarket carrier. Also, it still bolts in and fits like a normal S-60, and is only a very few pounds heavier. Finding a used but good 35-spline Detroit Locker for the 70 isn't any challenge at my local Salvage yards. Overhaul kits are cheap. The kit costs $300, but it includes a master install kit, so the net cost is more like $150. The problem is getting a rear cover to fit. A stock 70 cover might work with a spacer, or you might do some grinding in an aluminum cover. Both 60 and 70 covers use the exact same gasket. I'm not getting any benefit from sharing this, I just found it intriguing, especially for whoever here was trying for 2,000 HP, since the D70 has a 1.25" larger ring gear than that Ford 9" that will break. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...hlight=jana+76
