Rebuilding 10 Bolt
Ok so ive got a 91 camaro rs 5 speed. Its got 3.08 gear ratio with open carrier. Carrier is also series 2 carrier. So im buying a series 2 carrier spacer from summit under Motive Gear for only $45 and swapping out ring and pinion to my new 3.73 gears. So I just got a complete rear end for $50 which has disc brakes, posi, sway bar. So I guess all I need is a proportioning valve to switch to disk brakes? Also getting a the Ratech deluxe rebuild kit which is from summit for $109.99. So with doing all of this im getting it professionally done for $250. Is that a good price?????

This "complete disc brake rearend for $50" you just got, is that posi a 3-series? If so, return the ring gear spacer. You sure can't put any real power through one.

If its a complete rebuild and they know what there doing with some kind of warranty than $250.00 is a fare price.I payed $300.00 for mine.Just curious but what type of posi.(LSD) are you getting? If you can afford it through one of these on = http://www.jegs.com/i/L.P.W./619/301-7.5G/10002/-1

Re: Rebuilding 10 Bolt
posi is a seriers 2 carrier thats why I need the spacer. The spacer will adapt to fit seriers 2 carrier for my series 3 ring gear. It came out of a 1986 rear end with 2.73 gears I believe.
Re: Rebuilding 10 Bolt
You would be much better off getting one of the thick gear sets that are made to fit the 2 series differential and forget the spacer. The spacers often cause problems and can cause the gears to fail.

This is a 2 series Auburn for the 7.5 rear end. Notice the machined sholder on the differential that centers the ring gear. This is made so that the ring gear is a light press fit on the differential and makes the ring gear run true on the differential.

This is the same 2 series Auburn with a ring gear spacer installed. Notice that the spacer almost completely covers this machined sholder. Combine this with the chamfer on the back of the ring gear and the ring gear will no longer center on the differential. This will cause the ring gear to float around on the differential and cause problems. I have seen many rear ends with ring gear spacers that sheared all of the ring gear bolts off, and I have seen many that had abnormal wear on the gears because they didn't run true. Ring gear spacers are a bad idea.
