Problems with 700r4 warmed up..
Hi guys, first post here and I just want to first say I do not own a third gen, but do visit these boards often to read up on SBC's and the 700R4.
I have a 1975 Toyota FJ40, and one of the most popular swaps for it is the SBC. I purchased one with a 305 and decided I wanted to add a 700R4 to it.
Here's my problem, when the truck is cold and and warming up, the 700R4 drives and reverses just fine. After a couple times around the block and 30-40mins or so of idling, it starts to have problems. When I put it in reverse, it won't move unless I push the gas, previously when cold it would roll easily without pushing the gas. The same goes for putting it in drive.
I do have a temp gauge and the temp has never gone over 150*. The TV cable is hooked up to an edelbrock 1406 carb with the proper geometry linkage, and I have set it using the WOT method. I have a separate cooler that has a fan, the lines do not run through my main radiator.
I have tested the fluid flow by shooting the return cooler line into a bucket while starting the car, it had good flow.
After I let the truck cool down it starts working again, I can take it around the block and reverse and drive work fine without pushing the gas pedal.
Anyone know what could be going on? Thanks
