Just as the title says has anyone used this rear end in their third gen? http://www.quickperformance.com/Products/housings.htm (scroll down the page to the F-body rear end) if so what did you think of it? The reason I ask is I took a 85 trans am in trade for some money owed to me for a motor I built and the Brog warner 9 bolt is trashed. After looking at what it will take to rebuild it, it seems to be a better choice to spend a little extra cash to get 9 inch. Future plans are to install my 383 in this car and drag it. So a strong rear end is needed. Wondering also what about the torque arm. My car already has a spohn torque arm on it, just wonder what is need to make the two work? Thanks in advanced.

 

keep in mind that price does not include brakes or the center section, its just the hosing and axles. Ifs its made to work with a stock torque arm, a aftermarket arm shoujld also work with it. However, with the design of that particular TA mount, you might have clearance issue with the aftermarket arms that have dual mounting provisions, like Spohns, UMI's and others that are similar. I dont have that rear, so i dont know for sure, but there is a chance you will have to trim the mounting flanges on the TA to get it to fit.

make sure you know what you need for the brakes too. IDK if the housing ends provided with the kit will work with you stock brakes. they have a option listed for GM flush mount ends, which i believe are the correct ones to mount the later 4th gen rear discs. That will add some cost to the kit as well, and you will then need parking brake cables to match the new brakes.

 

I bought one in the summer of 2012. I purchased the complete kit, put it together, painted and installed it. I have a UMI torque arm with the tranny brace. I had to cut off one set of the torque arm mounting holes from the t/a bracket so it would work. I also had to modify the tunnel hump a little to fit it for axle travel. I got mine with disc brakes (they use Ford calipers and rotors but drilled the rotors to match my GM bolt pattern of 5x4.75. I had my choice of axles, lug studs, center section, gearing, etc. I like that they come with rear trailing arm brackets that have multiple mounting locations, and a fill AND drain plug in the center section. JUST BE SURE TO ASK FOR SEALS where the axle bearing fits into the housing. I did not get them (nor were they offered) and my axles leaked gear oil. The guy who helped me (I can't remember his name...) was very helpful and patient. My 92 Camaro is a street/strip car and I have run an 8.00 in the 1/8 and 12.60 in the 1/4 on MT Drag Radials w/ Billet Specialties Street Lite wheels. So far, so good!

 

I got a QP 9" too.

I got the 35 spline axles, so it'll never break!

Well worth the money if you are looking to go fast!

I have been low 11's with mine, and I have friends with the QP 9", and they are low 9's with 35 spline .

 

What tires are you using and what hp jets for the spray?

 

275/60/15 MT drag radials.

On that 11.38 pass, I was using a 75hp dry shot, turning the nitrous on at 2500rpm(leaving soft).

 

I bought one. I have installed it but not run it. I am happy with the fit and build quality.
