is it normal for a 700r4 to do this?

so i started playing around with manual shifting the 700r4 yesterday.(86 iroc)

Turns out when i put it on first, and drive... it will automatically shift itself to second gear.

Is this normal?
It doesnt do that for 2nd gear only for 1st.

Should i worry or is this the norm for a 700r4?

This is normal. It is referred to as an anti-abuse feature.

Re: is it normal for a 700r4 to do this?

This is normal for 700R4's. The TransGo Perfomance Shift kit has the ability to hold manual low to any rpm. I offer this combined with the TransGo Senior Shift kit, Corvette servo, large boost valves, etc. That way all the other problems (shift spacing, lockup, etc.) are fixed that were common in the 1982 - early 1987 units.
