should i use a 9 or 10 bolt help please
i just bought a 82 camaro v6 , and also bought a 89 firebird for parts . my donor car has the 9 bolt with disk brakes. I was told it just had 4:11's swapped in , but its not posi, i spin one wheel the other spins the other way. Is there a way to make it posi? Or am i better of changing axles and adding disk brakes and a locker to the 10 bolt. The car is going to have a built up 350 with a 700r4 . Car is just gonna be a toy. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge there are no 4.11 9-bolt gears, and not more than about 5 that aren't posi (or at least, weren't when they left the factory).
Before swapping ANYTHING, take a look inside the cover. Sounds like you may be in for a surprise.

9 vs 10.....
9-bolt is stronger, 4-pinions gears, no clutch discs in their posi units, has no c-clips to break and don't send your axle with wheel running down the road without you when the c-clip breaks but parts are harder to locate since they are less common & not every parts store bothers to carry parts for them on hand.
10-bolt has 2-pinion gears, clutch discs for their posi, c-clips that break & let the axle & wheel exit your car but is more easily serviceable because parts can be obtained at any parts store.
