Factory 3.73 gears, best place to buy??

I want to buy a new set of gears, but am tired of the rear diff whining like a 2 year old. Talked to a few guys with GM gears and they don't have any rear diff noise. I have richmond gears and they drive me crazy. Wandering your thoughts and best place to buy, order them from. I have seen a few used sets but not sure about used gears?

Are they available from the GM parts counter? I believe the gear-set was used in a few different vehicles over a span of many years, which may have kept them in production / stock.

My Richmond 3.73's just started to whine in coast mode, after they were really quiet for about 30k miles.

The brand you want is MOTIVE GEARS..They are cut different from Richmond's racing cut (reason for the noise). Try a Internet seach for them and I don't think you are going to find them over a GM parts dept. The New GM.

Mine have made noise since day 1. It wasn't a big deal when I wasn't driving it much, but next year I plan on driving it everyday. Totally changing my direction and building my car. I was lucky enough to find a factory disc rear from a 92 GTA with 3:23 gears. I may just leave them, with my 6-spd I could get sweet gas mileage....

Most of the time gear noise is from improper installation. If the pinion depth, beairng preload and backlash are not set correctly then even the best gears are going to make a lot of noise. I've installed many Richmond gears that didn't make any noise at all.

Many of the S series trucks had 3.73 gears. They should be available from GM or your local salvage yard. Randy's Ring & Pinion also sells GM gears. These will work in the rear end with the 3.23 gears because that one will have a 3 series differential. Again, if they are not set up correctly they will make noise.
