Re: Transmission Brake
Many transmissions can have a brake installed. A transbrake for a TH350 is expensive compared to other transbrakes.
Some brakes are designed differently than others depending mainly on the type of transmission. They all work the same way. When the tranny is in first gear and the transbrake button is depressed, the reverse gear is engaged which locks the transmission in 2 gears. When the button is released, the reverse circuit is dumped and the car launches forward in first gear.
Some valve bodies with transbrakes don't have an automatic feature when the shifter is put into D meaning you can start off in high gear and burn out the clutches if done repeatedly. Others may have a forward or reverse shift pattern. Forward pattern is PRN321. Reverse is PRN123. A reverse pattern forces you to manually downshift to low gear before putting it into neutral or reverse.
The simplest way to determine what's available is to search on places like Jegs or Summitracing to see what's commonly available. There are other transbrake manufacturers who don't deal with those places but the basic design of a transbrake is always the same.
No transbrake is a simple bolt on component. All the transmissions need to be disassembled and modified for using a transbrake.
Here's a TCI transbrake for a TH350. It uses a reverse shift pattern.
