th400 fit?

my uncle runs a mini junkyard persay and pulled what looks like a th400 out of a camper and offered it to me, my question is, will it work? i havent seen alot of threads where a 400 was installed and am interested in doing the swap if i can get the conversion parts easy enough. im going to list some pictures of the trans, its inside a small area so the lighting really sucks but i cant tell if its a short or long shaft or even what i need.

Re: th400 fit?

Why would you want to run a TH400 behind a 2.8L V6? Why would you want to lose the low 1st speed and overdrive? Just asking......

Re: th400 fit?

Looks like a TH400 but flip it over and check out the oil pan to be certain.

I am running a TH350 (slightly more aggressive gearing than a TH400) behind a set of vortec heads.

Re: th400 fit?

Get a new trans crossmember from Spohn/UMI and it bolts right in. I swapped one in my 84 last winter, fits very well even with a CSI carbon fiber shield on top of it. You will have to get a new yoke and have a new driveshaft made.
