Stock 89 GTA rear end. I think it's about done for

So to my knowledge, the rear end in my Gta is stock which means its the 3.27 9incher. I think it's about time to replace it.

Attempting to repair the cover seal last night, I removed the cover. The fluid that is coming out looks like a can of metallic mixed paint. And that fluid has only been in for a little over a year.

It's also made a sort of humming noise since ive owned it for 2 years. Only makes the sound when I'm giving it gas but not coasting which also sounds like a rear issue.

What do you think guys?

It's a 9 bolt, not 9 inch. The cone type limited slip differential that was used in the Borg Warner rear end wears quicker than the Eaton differential with flat clutch plates. You will see much more metal in the oil with the cone type differential that with the flat clutches. If this metal has gone through the bearings a lot then the bearings are going to suffer for it. This is one of the reasons that I don't like the cone type differentials. If you get a small craft magnet and epoxy it to the inside of the cover down low and away from the ring gear it will catch a lot of that metal.

I meant 9 bolt oops. So you don't think anything of the noise I'm hearing?

Could be that enough of that metal has gone through the bearings to wipe them out. There is only one way to find out and that's to get in there and check them.
